The biggest expectation for beginners is to persevere and have a positive attitude!

Taekwondo is a year round sport. We do not stop for any season. Most students who begin with us do take breaks to play other sports and you are welcomed to do this! Testing however is in the months of February, May, August, and November. If students have not been in classes they will not be able to move onto the next belt.

As mentioned on the home page, students are expected to demonstrate our 5 Tenants in all aspects of their lives. Discipline is a huge part of our curriculum in our dojang. Regardless of being ready for testing, if students are not demonstrating their tenants they will not move on to the next belt and level of training.

First Step

You have already begun the first step by researching our dojang! The next step will be to click on the link below and fill out the 1 week trial form. When that is completed, a representative of the school will reach out to you to schedule your first one-on-one appointment to make sure we are a good fit for each other. After the trial week, you will register your student on this website. There you will pay your first month, at the rate of the year membership, and pay for the gi (uniform), shorts and t-shirt. You will be all set to continue class!

How can this help my child?

Martial Art curriculum is known to improve students’ physical abilities such as balance and timing, while also getting a great workout engaging and strengthening muscles all over the body. The other aspect of martial arts is the mental strengthening through the development of the Tenants. Students will develop self-confidence in themselves through the achievements in tournaments, moving up belts, and the knowledge of being able to defend themselves. All around Rising Phoenix Martial Arts has a goal to improve the lives of all its students whether youth or adult, physical or mental!

What is the best age?

The typical age range of students is 8 to 12. However we do have a lot of teens and adult students and in the Dragon’s program we have students as young as 5 years old. We adjust the workouts to each student! Students are expected to persevere to the level they can obtain in the state they are in.

Can I take a family class or classes with my child?

This school is filled with great families! This sport is one that families can participate together, and enjoy together! All family members will find different values in the class no matter their age!

How long does it take to get my Black Belt?

It takes 3 years to earn you Black Belt, with constient training and effort, along with passing every test every 3 months. It is important to keep in mind that 1st degree Black Belt represents a beginning martial artist! Everything else is just to get you to the beginning of a lifelong journey!

What do I bring to class?

Students are expected to wear the school uniform to class. This can be the full Gi, T-shirt and/or Shorts that will be paid for with the first month of classes. Additional shirts may be purchased through our online store.

Also bring water to drink and your belt to each class.

How often should I train?

At least twice a week is a good number for this. Consistency is key. Students who miss every other week will often fall behind or struggle to feel included in class. With the memberships students will be able to access 4 classes a week. It is understandable that some classes will be missed, however the more the students can attend the more they will learn from the programs!
